Casillas: "De Gea made a small error, I have total faith in him"
The Porto keeper gave his expert opinion on De Gea's errors against Portugal: "Cristiano has a stinging shot, David shouldn't be put in the eye of the storm".
Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas feels that David de Gea has been unfairly singled out for Spain's opening 3-3 draw against Portugal at the World Cup. De Gea made a classic mistake which lots of goalkeepers have made, explained the former Spain skipper: "I have total faith in him".
Casillas: "Cristiano strikes the ball so cleanly..."
Casillas feels that it is counter productive to dwell on the incident: "For making a small mistake, he shouldn't be put in the eye of the storm" and added that Portugal's goals were more down to the merits of the man who scored them, than poor judgement on the part of the United keeper. "Cristiano has a stinging shot - he strikes the ball very cleanly - especially with his left foot. It was a quick move and maybe the ball suddenly changed direction".
He also spoke about the last goal which De Gea let in, from a free-kick but again, put it all down to the skills of the Real Madrid ace: "The third goal was tremendous - pure quality. It was practically unstoppable. Cristiano's the main man for Portugal".
Spain looked the part
Despite the result, Casillas is convinced Spain will soon be winning and impressed with their football on their tournament debut: "Spain were wonderful to watch, the draw doesn't bother me. A defeat would have been a bad result for us, but a draw seems fair".
