REAL MADRID

Antonio Conte on alert in case Madrid lose El Clásico

According to Sport Mediaset, the Italian coach could replace Julen Lopetegui if Real Madrid fail to get a good result at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Julen Lopetegui's chances of remaining in employment, at least for the forseeable future, are looking slimmer than ever, although Emilio Butragueño did announce that the Basque coach will be sat in the visitors' dug-out at Camp Nou on Sunday. However, according to Sport Mediaset, should Real Madrid come away with a negative result on Sunday, Lopetegui will be sacked. If that happens, they claim Florentino Pérez has Antonio Conte waiting to take over.

Conte, a free agent

The Italian media outlet add that Conte still has a few legal matters to sort out with Chelsea. But on a professional level, he is totally free to accept any coaching post that is offered to him. The coach has alerted his personal coaching team that their next destination could be the Spanish capital.

Laurent Blanc was also believed to be on the list of candidates to replace Lopetegui although Conte is the firm favourite according to Sport Mediaset as he has already received approval from the Madrid dressing room with Sergio Ramos, captain and leader, and Courtois giving full supporting to Conte as Lopetegui's successor.

Diario AS reported that Real Madrid were back in contact with Conte last weekend after the home defeat to Levante. The Italian coach will be on red alert in case Madrid lose to Barcelona on Sunday.
