Spanish football represented with 20 players at CAN 2019
Leganes is the LaLiga club with the highest representation at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with three players in action in Egypt.
The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations gets underway in Egypt on June 21 and will feature no less than 20 players who currently ply their trade in the Spanish leagues with representation from LaLiga, LaLiga 1|2|3 and even a player from 2B and Tercera.
Grupo B features three Nigerian "Super Eagles" with Omeruo playing with Leganés, Chukwueze at Villarreal and Moses Simon in action at Valencia based Levante. Recently condemned to 2B Nastic features the talents of José Kanté (Equitorial Guinea) with no Spanish based players featuring for Burundi or CAN debutantes Madagascar.
Each national side from Grupo C features at least one Spanish based player with the sole 2B, player Moussa Wagué (Barcelona B) lining up for Senegal alongside Malaga based Alfred N'Diaye. Real Betis' Aïssa Mandi will wear the white shirt of Algeria with Las Palmas based Ismael Athuman included in the Kenya squad. Tanzania's Farid Mussa is the sole representative from 3a division Tenerife B).
Morocco is the only nation in Group D to feature LaLiga based talent with five squad members from Herve Renard's side connected with Spanish sides: El Kajoui (Málaga), Bono (Girona), Boufal (Celta) and En Nesyri (Leganés). Real Madrid's Achraf can also be included in this groupg despite the defender being currently on loan with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund. Ivory Coast, South Africa and Namibia are the other national sides composing Group D.
Mauritania are one of the three debutantes at this year's AFCON with the North African side including two Spanish based players in their squad: El Hacen (Valladolid) and Alcorcon's Aly Abeid. Angola have called up Albacete's Jérémie Bela with other Group E sides Tunisia and Mali void of Spanish based talent.
Group F includes Cameroon with the current holders boasting Karl Toko Ekambi (Villarreal) and Wilfrid Kaptoum (Betis) in their ranks. The Black Stars of Ghana feature Atletico Madrid's midfield general Thomas Partey along with Wakaso (Alavés) and Kwabena, (Leganés but on loan this year to Salamanca based Salmantino).
