REAL MADRID

Real Madrid loanee cabinet excites for next season

Real Madrid loanees are in LaLiga (Odegaard, Kubo...) and in the Premier League (Ceballos and Vallejo) and the Bundesliga (Achraf) as they cut their teeth.

Real Madrid's present is an unclear, but the future is being looked at with patience as several star signings and promising academy players head out on loan in Spain's LaLiga, the Premier League and Germany to cut their teeth. Still awaiting Kubo's debut with Mallorca, others like Odegaard, Ceballos, Reguilon and Achraf have started like rockets with Real Madrid rubbing their hands at the potential of teaming all these young talents up.

'Operation Loan-out' worked for Madrid last season after Raul de Tomás was sold on to Benfica for €20 million after a successful spell at Rayo. And now, they have even removed the fear clause within their loanees' contracts. They want to know for sure if they are ready for a permanent return to the first team or a sale somewhere else. The club's strategy is solid.

Odegaard, txuri-urdin idol

His sublime left-foot is starting to show form. After moving from Holland after a so-so season to Real Sociedad this summer like a catapult back to Spain, he is off to a flyer. Eintracht were in for him and offered him Champions League but he wanted to try his hand at Spain and an exciting project at Anoeta. He only needed two games to score his first goal, last Sunday against Mallorca, on a marvellous counter-attack. "It has been a special day," he said after the game. He has fit in seemlessly at Real Sociedad and while he was planning on staying up north for two years, he could still arrive back at Real Madrid next summer. He has renewed until 2023 and Real Madrid see him in the team next season.

Ceballos, getting ovations at the Emirates

He gave a performance worthy of a standing ovation at the Emirates in his home debut that included a couple of assists. He won Man of the Match that day too. Emery has given him the keys and Madrid have a special interest in what happens in the Premier League to see what it can do with his qualities. Zidane insisted on his departure despite his excellent under-21 Euro campaign with Spain and Madrid have fulfilled their desire not to sell him permanently. They hope he returns.

Reguilón, goalscorer at Sevilla

The signing of Mendy meant Reguilón had to leave and find a place to go, which is where Lopetegui and Sevilla came in. He scored his first goal against Espanyol. Against Granada he had to be taken off after 20 minutes for a knock to the head but he has recovered and is ready to start again next week. He renewed before he took the train down to Sevilla and he has a contract now until 2023.

Achraf, vital for Dortmund

One of the loans Madrid have most faith in. The right-back (20) has recovered after a bad injury to his right foot and has started his second season on loan at Dortmund like he did the first: as one of the best players in the team. Last week he was key in a 1-2 win over Cologne.

Kubo, an expectation at Mallorca

The Japanese youngster has made a loan move to LaLiga newcomers, Mallorca, after surprising in the preseason. He is only 18 years old and arrived for nothing with the non-EU spots making his chances of first team football difficult. He will play in the top flight this season and while he has not made his debut with Mallorca yet, he could revolutionise the island.

Vallejo, a new Wolf

With Militao taking over as the fifth central defender, Vallejo has fit in well at Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. He has not yet played with them in the Premier League but he was a starter in the Europa League against Pyunik from Germany and Torino from Italy.

Lunin disembarks to Valladolid

The great destination for Real Madrid loanees (three this season) is Valladolid. Lunin is currently being held out by Masip. The strange situation of Keylor Navas, who looks like he could stay, meant Lunin had to leave on loan. Ronaldo personally asked Real Madrid for this deal to happen but he has still not made his debut.

Óscar, hope at Leganés

Leganés wanted him back and paid €600,000 for another loan deal after a successful spell there last year. For Pellegrino, he is a starter, but he lost out on the Atlético Madrid game after a red card in the league opener.

Mayoral repeats at Levante

Another repeat loan, in this case it's Mayoral at Levante. After a very irregular season last year, he is hoping to change that this year. He played 90 against Alavés and did not feature against Villarreal.

...And Luca Zidane, in the Segunda

The big attraction in Segunda. The club proposed an exit and his father saw it as a good idea as he chose Racing Santander. In his debut, they lost to Malaga (0-1), and he missed out because of a muscle injury in their second game.
