Real Madrid travel to take on Valencia on Sunday, where Zinedine Zidane’s men have a chance to move clear of Barcelona at the top of the table.

Following Barcelona’s draw against Real Sociedad on Saturday, Los Blancos can move two points ahead of Ernesto Valverde’s side should they manage to win at Mestalla, where the hosts were 2-1 victors in the previous meeting back in March.

Currently in eighth position, Valencia will hope to win again as they look to move back towards the Champions League spots. Los Ches have won four of their five last La Liga games and will fancy themselves to put one over high-flying Madrid at home, where they have won three of their last five meetings with the visitors, losing once.

Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is expected to name a close-to-full strength side, although Belgian star Eden Hazard misses out through injury. The French coach may also opt to rest Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who is at risk of missing the Clásico if he picks up a yellow card. The 27-year-old stalwart has accumulated more minutes than any other player in Zidane’s squad this season, having played 1,830 minutes, or 96.8% of the total available.

Valencia, meanwhile, will be without Kevin Gameiro, Maxi Gomez and goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, while Denis Cheryshev and Geoffrey Kondogbia are doubtful. Albert Celades’s side’s main threat will come from midfielder Daniel Parejo, who has been the club’s best performer this season and is the current top scorer with six goals – five less than Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
