Inter Miami still waiting for first franchise victory in MLS

Inter Miami lost their first two games in the 25th season of Major League Soccer before the competition was postponed by the coronavirus pandemic. The new MLS franchise lost on their debut against LAFC 1-0 at the Banc of California and then fell 2-1 in Washington to DC United.

Zero from five for Beckham's Inter Miami

Despite losing those opening games, the team showed signs that they were competitive and had the potential to have a decent debut season, like that of Atlanta United or LAFC when they joined the league. But after the restart, David Beckham’s franchise is yet to get their first victory in their brief existence thus far.

Inter Miami lost against Orlando City 2-1, with a late goal from Nani, then lost to Philadelphia Union by the same score. And now, following a 1-0 defeat to New York City, Inter is officially out of the MLS is Back tournament and they are the team that has had the worst start since debuting in the MLS. Five games, five defeats.

Before the most recent defeat, Inter Miami had joined Toronto and Minnesota United with the worst start for a debuting team with four defeats.

While Toronto and Minnesota got their first three points in their fifth game, Chivas USA (2005) and Montreal Impact (2012) had a worst record with only one point in five games. Now Inter Miami stand alone with zero points from a handful of games. The two aforementioned team registered their first win in their sixth game in the MLS.

Inter Miami will have to wait for MLS to resume

Now that they are out of the MLS is Back tournament, Inter Miami will have to return home and wait for the league to resume before they can get another chance to get that elusive first win. Several franchises who debuted in the MLS have rocky starts but only Chicago Fire has won the MLS Cup in their debut season when they defeated DC United back in 1998.
