Real Madrid vs Granada: LaLiga preview

Real Madrid moved level on points with Atlético Madrid at the top of LaLiga following a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Eibar at the weekend. Eibar ran Zinedine Zidane’s champions ragged in Ipurua. Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Lucas Vázquez were on the scoresheet for the visitors, with captain Kike García adding a wonderstrike for the hosts in one of the games of the season.

Zidane admitted that Ronald Koeman's complaints about refereeing decisions in Madrid's favour annoyed him, and added that he would never engage in such a debate. Barcelona coach Koeman said on Monday that he could not understand the failure to award a penalty to Eibar late in their 3-1 defeat to Madrid.

These comments were relayed to Zidane on Tuesday, to which he replied: "It annoys me because I never get involved with the referees. They are part of the game and make good calls or bad ones - like the players, like everyone in life. They are only trying to do their job - a very difficult job. What Koeman said I'm not going to get into that. We have an important game tomorrow [against Granada], a very demanding game, and that's the only thing we're thinking about."

Madrid sit joint-top of the LaLiga table with neighbours Atlético on 29 points. Simeone's side take on Real Sociedad on Tuesday night and could extend their lead at the top with two extra games in hand. Madrid will be wary of Granada's threat coming into Wednesday's game. Diego Martínez's side should no longer be labelled as the newly promoted side from the Segunda División. Competing in the Europa League will certainly test the Andalusian side's squad in 2020-21 season as well as aiming for another top 10 finish. Zidane's team are on a winning streak of four straight wins. Granada come into the Christmas fixture sitting in very nicely sixth, in what has been another extremely impressive season in the top flight.
