The USA Gymnastics team took home the gold in Rio de Janeiro, and many fans are wondering if they can do it again.

The Gold Medal Final Five Team in 2016 was made up of Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Alexandra Raisman.

Biles will be the only competitor from 2016 returning to the Olympics this year. The veteran will be joined by Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Grace McCallum.

Two other gymnasts, MyKayla Skinner, and Jade Carey, also qualified but will be competing individually.

Results from the 2021 Olympic trials

The team is made of mostly Olympic first-timers and each brings their own skills which were on full display at the US Olympic trials this June.

Aside from 2017, where Morgan Hurd was ranked World Champion, Simone Biles has won the title each year since 2013. This year she ranked first in the All-Around -- which combines the scores of each of the four events -- at the 2021 US Olympic trails.

The only other USA teammate to score higher than Biles on any event at trails was Sunisa Lee, who scored above a 15 on the bars -- the only competitor to do so. Lee is currently the U.S. uneven bars champion, and at the trials also took home the silver for her work on the balance beam.

Jordan Chiles, a strong and consistent gymnast is currently the 2021 Winter Cup all-around, vault, and floor exercise champion. At the trials, she also became the 2021 U.S. vault bronze medalist.

Grace McCallum, a Minnesota native is the 2021 U.S. balance beam bronze medalist is the youngest member of the team. At the Olympic trials, McCallum took home the bronze for her performance on the balance beam.

Tokyo will not be the first place these four athletes have competed together as a team. Before the pandemic in 2019, the group won the gold at the World Championship in Germany.
