Gerard Piqué has further enamored himself with Barcelona fans this weekend for his actions both on and off the field.

Having agreed to take a significant pay cut so that Barcelona could comply with LaLiga’s financial rules in order to register new players, including Memphis Depay, the veteran defender capped off the week by scoring the first goal of the post-Messi era in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

At the end of a week that also so Piqué launch his own Twitch channel, his wife, Colombian pop superstar Shakira, took to social media to express her pride in her partner, highlighting his commitment to both Barcelona and his family following his goal on Sunday and his commendable financial sacrifice for the good of the club earlier this week.

Shakira “very proud” of Piqué

Shakira posted a photo to her Instagram of Piqué celebrating his 13th career goal for Barcelona, accompanied by an affectionate message for her 34-year-old husband that has garnered well over half a million likes (at time of writing).

“Very proud of you @3gerardpique! Your team, your club as well as us, your family, can always count on you whenever we need u!” wrote the Hips Don’t Lie singer.

As revealed by Piqué in his first Twitch video, the couple are currently separated with Shakira on vacation with their two sons, Sasha (5) and Milan (8), while Piqué, of course, has remained in Barcelona following his return to duty with his club to start the new LaLiga season.

As such, Shakira was eager to send a message of support to her husband during what has undoubtedly been a difficult week for the player and all at Barcelona following the exit of Lionel Messi -- not to mention his own personal financial sacrifice.
