Soccer transfers summary on deadline day: Griezmann, Mbappé, news and movements

Transfer Window Summer 2021 | PSG ignore Real Madrid's final offer for Kylian Mbappé. Saúl and Griezmann moves appear to fall through. Final transfer news.

Mbappé to Madrid and all the transfer news

And that’s it for the summer transfer window 2021. The biggest move, which many had thought might be possible, ended up not happening, as PSG rebuffed then ignored Real Madrid’s efforts to land Kylian Mbappé, with the Spanish club increasing their bid to an eye-watering €200 million. The French player is out of contract next summer, meaning Madrid can start talks with the player in January and look to sign a pre-contract agreement to then bring him to the Bernabéu in the summer of 2022. Madrid won’t be saving themselves 200 million though - an out of contract player holds his own registration, meaning Mbappé will pick up a tasty signing on fee, possibly over 100 million.

There was drama right up to the end of the window, with Atlético Madrid involved in two moves that looked to suddenly fall through, then miraculously get completed on the stroke of midnight. Saúl ended up going on loan to Chelsea, while Griezmann returns to the Wanda Metropolitano from Barcelona. With those dependent moves going through, De Jong also heads to Barcelona, from Sevilla.

USMNT players were also involved, with Mathew Hoppe moving from Schalke to Mallorca and Chris Richards extending his loan at Hoffenheim.

Thanks for following!

Return of Griezmann

loan deal

LaLiga confirm Griezmann loan deal

Griezmann to Atlético Madrid did indeed go through fine, confirm LaLiga. One year loan deal.

Heh.

Atleti confirm Saúl deal did go through!

Hold on! Spanish radio station El Larguero is saying the paperwork for Saúl to Chelsea and Griezmann to Atleti has in fact gone through! Waiting on it being checked...

PSG have landed Sporting left-back Nuno Mendes on loan.

Mbappé to Madrid... on hold

Real Madrid made a pretty valiant attempt to land Kylian Mbappé, upping their bid to a final 200 million euros today, but PSG stood firm and refused to even speak to them on deadline day. The French striker will now be a free agent next summer and Madrid will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January, though of course they could face competition for his signature (or PSG might convince him to sign a new contract... though he apparently rejected a new two year deal on an eye-watering 45 million euros a year net, more than Messi and Neymar, so that looks unlikely).

Mbappé won't actually come in for free - as he'll hold his own registration he'll be able to demand a signing on fee from Madrid, which could be north of 100 million. That'll still be cheap compared to what Madrid were willing to pay to get him right now.

Saúl to Chelsea, Griezmann to Atleti off

Waiting for final, final confirmation but it appears certain that something went wrong with Saúl's move to Chelsea, which then led to Griezmann's loan deal back to Atleti being called off. As you were, then.

Wait, what's that sound? Indeed, the transfer window slamming shut...

20-year-old American Mathew Hoppe is off to Mallorca on a four-year deal from Schalke.

Manu Carreño on Cadena Ser saying there's a lack of optimism at Atleti over Griezmann move happening with Saúl move also looking less likely.

Comes in from Bologna for 18.6 million euros

Rumours filtering out of Barcelona that Griezmann paperwork on hold pending Saúl to Chelsea being finalised. Seven minutes to go...

saúl

Saúl to travel to London tomorrow

According to sources consulted by our Spanish colleagues, Saúl's deal to move to Chelsea is done and dusted. The player will travel to London tomorrow to put pen to paper.

Mbappé... summer 2022

Mbappé will be out of contract next summer at PSG and able to move wherever he wants with no transfer fee being paid. However, whichever club does sign him - likely to be Real Madrid you would think given how things are at the moment - won't get him without paying something in addition to his salary.

Free agents effectively hold their own registration rights, which they will then sign over to the club for a signing on fee. That's unlikely to be the 180 million or 200 million that Real Madrid have offered PSG, but it could well be over 100 million and possibly more if there's a bidding war for Mbappé's services.

L'Equipe: Griezmann will return to Atleti

The French outlet says Griezmann will return to the Spanish capital on loan from Barcelona, with a purchase option.

Mbappé rejected PSG 'super offer'

Le Parisien is reporting that PSG offered Mbappé a two-year deal on 45 million euros net a year (more than Messi and Neymar)... and Mbappé rejected. Goodness.

Real Madrid have offered 200 million euros for Mbappé

According to Josep Pederol, presenter of Spanish TV's 'El Chiringuito' football show, Real Madrid have indeed upped their offer for Mbappé: "Madrid have offered 200 million euros. The Emir is still refusing to reply. Right now Mbappé is really down."

Quite incredible PSG are refusing to even discuss taking 200 million for a player who will walk away for free next summer.

Seven contracts drafted for Mbappé deal

According to Josep Pederol, from Spain's El Chiringuito football show, Real Madrid have seven contracts sitting already drafted at their Valdebebas transfer war room, with four lawyers on standby (would love to know the hourly rate to have them sitting there...) in case things start to move on the Mbappé deal. The contracts are for PSG, the player, the agents, and the player's mother or father who is acting for Mbappé.

The problem for Real Madrid is that PSG are currently ignoring them. Even if the call comes in at 10 tonight a deal can be done, but the silence right now makes it look like nothing is happening.

Big Mbappé offer from Real Madrid rumoured

Goal reporting upped offer from Madrid for Mbappé, but with no reply.

Saúl to Chelsea

Not official yet but our sources say it's looking very likely. Saúl, who is keen to leave Atlético Madrid, appears to be heading to Chelsea. The deal is a loan with a purchase option; the English club will pay five million euros for the loan.

One condition: Atleti need a replacement. And the Madrid club want that replacement to be Griezmann. So Atleti are in talks with Barcelona to make that happen...

Camavinga joins Real Madrid on six-year deal

REAL MADRID

Camavinga joins Real Madrid on six-year deal

Camavinga official

The French midfielder joins on a six-year deal. More details.

For the love of Barcelona

Busquets and Alba have put their money where their mouth is... both have taken paycuts allowing the club to register Kun Agüero, thanks to the lowered wage bill. The two Barcelona veterans have agreed to reduce their pay some 25% this year and are also differing another chunk.

Rondón transfer could unlock Mbappé move?

A little bit from the 'butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo' stable of thought… there’s a line of thinking that runs that Salomón Rondón, currently plying his trade at Dalian Pro in the Chinese Super League could unlock Mbappé to Madrid. The idea is that if the Venezuelan moves to Everton that could mean Richarlison might then be allowed to move to PSG (the French outfit are known to be keen on the Brazilian), which in turn would mean PSG would be keen to move Mbappé on, with Madrid the destination.

Venezuelan journalist Carlos Suárez posted this rather enigmatic tweet, which is understood to mean the first part of this chain, Rondón to Everton, is a possibility (we're at a loss to understand the British then English flag, to be honest).

Camavinga officially a Real Madrid player

The official tweet is out...

camavinga

Camavinga joins Real Madrid

Eduardo Camavinga joins Real Madrid on a six-year deal running to 30 June 2027 (so strictly six-season not six-year, if you're being extremely picky about these things).

Griezmann to Atlético?

Although the reigning LaLiga champions would be very happy to welcome back former striker Antoine Griezmann - some rojiblanco fans may feel differently - Barcelona's offer to take their record signing João Félix in his place is not being looked at quite as favourably.

With Félix's agent, Jorge Mendes, in the middle of things, there is always a chance, but, as with Mbappé to Madrid, it would be a huge surprise if it now comes to pass.

Simeone is still keen on the French striker and it could be a move that works in conjuction with Sául's exit, most likely to Chelsea.

We'll keep on the phone to those in the know...

Done deal: James swaps Uniteds

There was always likely to be a cost to Cristiano Ronaldo arriving at Old Trafford and, as it turns out, the promising youngster Dan James is part of that.

The winger joins for £25m on a five-year contract.

PSG loan out Kalimuendo

Still under contract with PSG until 2024, the French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo has been loaned to RC Lens until 30 June 2022.

With the Parisien giants feeling positive about his future, the loan deal does not have a purchase option for Lens.

Tomiyasu gunning for Arsenal

Given their current plight at the bottom of the Premier League, some would question why a player would want to be heading to Arsenal right now.

But, if my prediction is right, and they are likely to start climbing the table quickly with strong showings from Odegaard, Auba, White and others, this could prove to be a very positive move.

As David Ornstein reports, it is believed the proposed contract length is four years and the deal is worth £16 million plus bonuses. The Japan international is currently undergoing his medical in Bologna.

Discussions are ongoing but a potential deal is dependent on other player movements at the club before the deadline on Tuesday evening.

Camavinga: what can Madrid fans expect?

Assessing his 39 games last season for Rennes, our friends at SofaScore have provided a summary of the player's key stats.

Casemiro + Camavinga = defensive cover

These stats suggest that Carlo Ancelotti is compensating for the loss of Ramos and Varane by trying to prevent the ball from even reaching his remaining backline.

Camavinga gets Lineker approval

As we await the official confirmation from the clubs, former Barça striker and regular potato muncher, Gary Lineker, has commented on the imminent Camavinga signing for Madrid.

The Rennes man was highly sought after and has chosen the Spanish giants over Man Utd and PSG, among others.

PSV to Juve to Sampdoria

I Blucerchiati will have Mohamed Amine Ihattaren available for selection this season as the Old Lady takes him from Eindhoven and loans him out.

A chance to shine!

Jugones: "Mbappé to Madrid is still possible"

El Chiringuito presenter Josep Pedrerol is hopeful that Kylian Mbappé's move to Real Madrid could still go though with the transfer window due to close tonight. "There is still hope. There is a feeling that it is still possible for Madrid to sign Mbappé". Paris Saint-Germain turned down Madrid's last offer of €180 million.

Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has signed a new contract with the Premier League club. The England midfielder, who had two years left on his previous deal, has agreed to an extension that will reportedly run until June 2025.

Kounde

Sevilla rejected Chelsea bid for Koundé

Sevilla sporting director Monchi said the LaLiga club rejected Chelsea's bid for defender Jules Koundé as the offer was not satisfactory. The European champions had been heavily linked with a move for the 22-year-old French international during the transfer window but the two clubs could not reach an agreement.

"There's been a lot of talk about moves made for Jules (Koundé), the majority of which were rejected by the player, but if there was one club he liked the look of, it was Chelsea," Monchi told a news conference on Tuesday. "The first and only formal offer we got from them was last Wednesday, around five o'clock, but it was an amount that wasn't to our liking, and it was also on the premise that Chelsea were able to sell a player too ... it wasn't enough in terms of conditions or quantity. I spoke to the player's agent a while back because as the end of the window draws nearer, the harder it is for a player to leave. We gave them until the 20th, but we listened to this offer even though it arrived on the 25th."

Monchi said they had also tried to reach a compromise deal with Chelsea but the English club did not respond to their proposal. "We went back to them with a counter-offer that expired last Friday night, and they didn't reply and haven't contacted us since," he added. "There was a formal offer made by Chelsea and a formal rejection by Sevilla, that's all there is to it".

Deschamps

Mbappé on international duty with France

Kylian Mbappé is available for France's forthcoming international games if Didier Deschamps decides to include him in his team. France face Bosnia-Herzegovina tomorrow at Stade de la Meinau in Strasburg, and Mbappé has travelled with the squad. On Saturday, they take on Ukraine in Kiev then three days later they are back home to play Finland

Next month's games will be France's first outings since their shock elimination from Euro 2020 to Switzerland over the summer.

emerson

Emerson absent from Barça training session

Emerson Royal was nowhere to be seen as the Barcelona squad worked out at the Ciutat Esportiva this morning, fuelling talk that he could leave the club on deadline day. The right-back's next destination could be Tottenham with reports that Spurs are ready to pay a fee of around 30 million euros (including extras and bonuses) for the player.

dalot

Diogo Dalot deal is off

Diogo Dalot's proposed move to Borussia Dortmund won't be going ahead as Manchester United have been unable to find a replacement at right-back. United were initially open to a one-year loan deal with Dortmund having the option to buy the defender in June next year. But the Premier League's attempts to lure Kieran Trippier away from Atlético Madrid fell on deaf ears. There is absolutely no way that Atleti would be prepared to sell the England international who is a first-choice under Diego Simeone - unless a club pays his 60 million euro buy-out.

Real Madrid's deadline day attempt for PSG's Mbappé

PSG may have already brought in Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player ever but certainly in the latter stages of his career, so there is a concern over a suitable replacement being brought in for Mbappé if they were to agree to him leaving now.

Manchester United complete Ronaldo transfer

Manchester United have completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus on a two-year deal, the Premier League side confirmed on Tuesday, as the Portuguese forward returns to the club where he won eight major trophies from 2003-2009.

United announced that they had agreed a deal with Juventus to bring the 36-year-old back to Manchester last week, with the transfer now complete after Ronaldo passed a medical, secured a visa and agreed personal terms. The transfer fee agreed was 15 million euros ($17.74 million) plus another eight million euros in performance-related add-ons.

"Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday," Ronaldo said in a statement. "I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again."

West Ham sign Vlasic

West Ham have signed Croatian attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic from Russian side CSKA Moscow on a five-year contract. West Ham did not disclose the transfer fee but British media reported the London club agreed a fee of 30 million euros ($35.47 million) plus nine million euros in add-ons for the 23-year-old, who has 26 caps for Croatia and also scored at Euro 2020.

"PSG don't have time to find a substitute"

Manu Carreño, host on radio programme El Larguero, explained that time is running out for PSG to find a replacement for Mbappé if he ends up joining Real Madrid. "We have entered a key moment. Real Madrid's ultimatum at 6pm doesn't seem to have had any effect. It's not that negotiations have broken down, they don't exist. But that doesn't mean that talks won't start up on Tuesday. Nobody has sat down with Real Madrid's president, nobody has responded to the offer. But PSG are not short of money, they have have millions, 180 million euros is nothing to them, what they don't have is a Champions League title. Some outlets in France are saying that if Madrid raise their offer to 210 million, the transfer could go through. That's because they still owe Monaco 30 million which would leave them with 180 million for Mbappé".

Reply from Qatar

Khalifah Bin Hamad Al Thani, a member of  the Al Thani family (Emir de Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani bought PSG in 2011) responded to El Chiringuito host Josep Pedrerol about the Mbappé situation on Monday night.

"Mbappé will stay in Paris this season. We will hold negotiations in October to extend his contract until 2025. Something is better than nothing," he said.
