Liga MX 2021 Playoffs: which team has won more championships?

Dating back to the 1950s when professionalism kicked in, one of the original sides, Club América, lead the way on titles. They have featured in 23 finals and won 13 of them, the most recent of which came in Apertura 2018. Behind Las Águilas come Guadalajara with 12 wins from 21 finals, while Toluca have 10 championships to their name, although haven't seen glory for over a decade.

Ignacio Ambriz reaches an agreement to manage Toluca next year

On other Liga MX news:

Hernan Cristante failed in his second stint as manager of Toluca and the bosses decided to part ways with him after they lost to Pumas UNAM 2-1 in the Wildcard game of the Liga MX 2021 Apertura campaign. A few weeks after the tough elimination they announced that Ignacio Ambriz had reached an agreement to return to Mexico and take over the managerial job for the next tournament.

Rodolfo Pizarro to leave Inter Miami and return to Monterrey

On other Liga MX news:

Rodolfo Pizarro became Inter Miami’s first designated player and he was supposed to lead the franchise to make a push for the MLS Cup in 2020. Unfortunately he had a hard time adapting to the league and in his first season he only scored four goals and provided five assists in 17 appearances.

Liga MX 2021 Playoffs: which team has played more finals?

Club América may have been brushed aside in the quarter finals by a ruthless Pumas UNAM side who fought back from going a goal behind, and they will therefore not have a chance to add to their record 23 finals played in, 13 of which they were victorious.

Instead we will see either Atlas or Pumas UNAM and one of Tigres UANL or Club León reaching this year’s showpiece final. Atlas, it should be noted, have made it to only four finals before, winning a single title back in the 1950/51 season. Compared to the other three semi-finalists they are some way behind historically.
