Sergiño Dest is contemplating leaving FC Barcelona
The future of the United States men’s national team player is uncertain at the Camp Nou, but he is determined to fight for his place in the starting XI.
Sergiño Dest has been very vocal about wanting to stay at Barcelona despite rumors that several teams are keen on signing him during the winter transfer window. The United States international wants to win trophies and become an important player at the Camp Nou.
Dest’s future is up in the air
Since Xavi took over the managerial job at Barcelona, Dest has struggled to see minutes and so far this year he has yet to play a game. The 21-year-old missed the 1-0 win against RCD Mallorca on matchday 19 because he was recovering from covid-19.
One week later, he was given the green light to return for matchday 20 and Xavi left him on the bench in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Granada. Then he was left out of the squad that lost 3-2 against Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercup semi-final.
According to ESPN, Dest wants to stay and fight for his place but the Camp Nou board are looking to offload the full back during the January transfer window. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are two teams that are interested in signing the USMNT player during the January transfer window.
Xavi wants to bring in a striker and the board are aware that Dest could help fund the signing of a new player. Álvaro Morata has been linked with a move to Barcelona from Juventus, but it all depends if they can offload Dest before the transfer window closes.
