Back at the end of September we found out the acts who would be gracing the stage of the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood California for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. The event itself felt like a distant desire but as the calendar flips onto Thursday 20 January, everything seems a lot, lot closer.

That sense of 'oh my god, it's almost here' is amplified with the release from Pepsi of the trailer to the halftime show... and you can watch it here.

For the latest edition of the biggest football match, halftime show sponsors Pepsi have turned to rap and hip-hop, with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige lined up to perform to the live audience and millions around the world.

Taken together the artists have racked up 43 Grammys and 19 No.1 Billboard albums, the NFL pointed out on Twitter. This marks the first time in the history of the Super Bowl five award-winning artists have been chosen to perform together at halftime.

The five artists all have ties to LA, with this being the first time that in nearly 30 years that the Super Bowl has been played in the city.

Dr. Dre delighted by the Super Bowl invite

American rapper, audio engineer, record producer and businessman Dr. Dre said he was “extremely excited to share the stage with my friends for the #PepsiHalftime Show.”

This is the third collaboration in a row between Pepsi and Roc Nation, the Entertainment Company founded by Jay Z in 2008. In 2020 Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed in Miami, Florida, while the Weeknd was the half-time entertainment at Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, this year.
