As they head into the Super Bowl, the Rams be looking at some bad news, as one of their key players may actually have to sit out the big game.

The Rams' Tyler Higbee could yet play in the Super Bowl

Last weekend when the Los Angeles Rams pulled off a dramatic win over the San Francisco 49ers, the celebrations were immense, however, the team was well aware of the cost of victory, as there No. 1 tight end Tyler Higbee was forced off the field with an injury. It would later be revealed that Higbee sustained an MCL sprain which to be frank, puts the hopes of him playing in Super Bowl LVI in serious jepordy. Head coach Sean McVay would not be drawn completely on whether or not Higbee would play, but he did admit to the idea the team was working on alternatives.

"We're working through some different avenues," McVay said of the injury. "He got an MCL sprain there. He's such a tough guy. We're going to do everything in our power to try to get this guy back and ready to go. But we are working some things."

Tyler Higbee by the numbers

One doesn't need a long look at Higbee's stats before realizing how important he is to the Rams. Indeed the tight end caught 61 passes (second on the team) for 560 yards (third) and 5 touchdowns (tied for third) across the 15 regular-season games in which he played. Before being sidelined last Sunday, he saw 14 snaps, catching two passes for 18 yards. If there is any consolation for the Rams, it's that backup Kendall Blanton most definitely stepped up to the plate last Sunday. Blanton caught five passes for 57 yards in the Rams' 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers, adding to the fact that he actually also scored a touchdown in the game before, which incidentally was the Divisional Round game against the defending Champions Tampba Bay Buccaneers.

The Rams have some problems to solve

While the news surrounding Higbee for the moment is not the best, McVay was optimistic about the possibility of starting safety Taylor Rapp being ready for when the Cincinnati Bengals come to town for Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium on February 13th. That being said, it should be noted that Rapp has missed all three playoff games after having suffered a concussion in Week 18. According to Mcvay, however, the safety is "looking like he's turned the corner in a "positive way," per McVay. For the moment, things remain unchanged, which is to say Higbee is in effect the only player who is listed as injured from Sunday, that could affect any Rams player's status for the Super Bowl,

"It'll be good to kind of figure out how we want to utilize these next couple weeks to try to get some guys that have played a lot of football, that are banged up, as healthy as possible for the 13th," he said. "But the only guy from yesterday's game that his game status could be in doubt for the Super Bowl would be Higs, but we're taking that a day at a time." McVay also referred to a handful of players who remain on the injured reserve list. "Definitely a possibility," he said when speaking of the availability of running back Darrell Henderson, cornerback Robert Rochell and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day.
