If the Bengals are to continue the historic run all the way to a Super Bowl title, they will need every tool available. If their star TE can recover in time, that's exactly the kinf of boost that they will want.

Bengals' Uzomah could play in the Super Bowl

Though celebrations probably lasted well into the next day, when the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in dramatic fashion to clinch the AFC Championship, there was perhaps one souring factor. Tightend C.J. Uzomah was forced off the field due to injury. Yet according to comments from head coach Zac Taylor on Monday, what turned out to be a knee injury is showing "encouraging" signs of progress, such that there is the hope that one of their key players may yet play in the Super Bowl. Taylor disclosed the nature of the injury itself saying that Uzomah had suffered a MCL sprain in his left knee. "I don't know anything further at this point but it seems to be encouraging initially," Taylor said.

Who is C.J. Uzomah and what happened?

In his seventh season in the NFL, the former Auburn player has been a critical part of the Bengals run to an AFC title. With the Super Bowl now beckoning, Cincinnati will be hoping that he can recover from what ultimately was an unprovoked injury. In the first quarter of Sunday's victory over the Chiefs, the tight end jumped to catch a pass from quarterback Joe Burrow that went incomplete. In the moments after, he could be see limping off the field before he eventually was taken via medical cart to the locker room. He would later return to the sideline, but could be seen wearing a protective brace on his leg. "I had to be out there for those guys," Uzomah told the team's website. "I wouldn't have missed that."

While there has been no official comment on his status or whether or not he will play, the veteran tight end told the team's website that he believes there's a chance he could be ready for Super Bowl LVI on February 13th, when the Bengals face the Los Angeles Rams. Uzomah also thanked fans for their prayers and support and said he was "focused on getting right" for their Super Bowl showdown at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. With that, it's now about the tick of the clock as the Bengals will be forced to sit and wait to see whether or not one of their most instrumental players can help them once again. Given that the Bengals last Super Bowl appearance was in 1989, one can bet he will do everything he can to be ready.
