NYCFC rejected an offer from River Plate for ‘Taty’ Castellanos
The 2021 Major League Soccer golden boot winner had a serious offer from Argentine giants, but the New York-based team decided to reject it.
Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos had several offers on the table to leave New York City FC during the winter transfer window, but the Major League Soccer club rejected them all. According to ESPN, the Argentine was keen on playing in his country with River Plate after winning it all with NYCFC last season.
The offer was not good enough
Per the report, the New York-based team rejected a very serious offer from Argentine giants River Plate for the 2021 MLS golden boot winner last month. Castellanos had already talked with the coaching staff of River Plate regarding his desire to play in Argentina this year and everything seemed to be sailing smoothly towards his arrival.
New York City FC was clear from the beginning that they wanted to retain Castellanos for the 2022 MLS regular season, but if an offer close to $20 million came their way it would be analyzed. River Plate wanted to bring in ‘Taty,’ but they made an offer close to $10 million and the MLS club told them to increase it if they wanted to sign the Argentine striker.
Currently, Castellanos is focused on the start of the CONCACAF Champions League and traveled with the rest of the team to Costa Rica for their upcoming game. NYCFC will play against Santos de Guápilies on Wednesday in the first leg of the round of 16 of the campaign.
