Giovanni Reyna will be sidelined for at least two weeks

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Giovanni Reyna will be sidelined for at least two weeks

On Monday, Giovanni Reyna underwent a medical examination after suffering an injury over the weekend and the good news is that he could return to team training in about 14 days. The United States international came out in tears in the 28th minute of the game on Sunday between Borussia Dortmund and Mönchengladbach.

Reyna injury not as bad as initially thought

Dortmund and the United States men’s national team were initially scared that Reyna had reinjured his right hamstring, but the Bundesliga side confirmed he only tore a muscle fiber, and had not suffered a serious thigh injury. The 19-year-old made his first start for Borussia Dortmund since 27 August and he looked like his old self before coming out due to the injury.

Reyna had suffered a hamstring injury while on duty with the United States national team back in September and finally made his return on 6 February in Dortmund’s 5-2 loss at Signal Iduna Park to Bayer Leverkusen. The USMNT ace missed the following game against Union Berlin due to an illness and Dortmund won that game 3-0.

Also, the 19-year-old could recover just in time for the last three games of the United States in World Cup qualifying next month. The USMNT is looking to secure a spot in the upcoming World Cup and they will play against Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica late-next month for the final matches of the round-robin tournament.
