Trump Inauguration
This is the Bible on which Donald Trump will take the oath of office
There’s a unique family backstory behind the holy book that the President-elect will use for his second inauguration on Monday.

President-elect Donald Trump will officially be sworn in for a second time today, becoming only the second person in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms in the White House.
Ahead of the second term there has been much speculation about the likely similarities and difference to the first Trump presidency. One feature that is almost certain to remain unchanged is his Inauguration Day oath of office, for which he is expected to use two Bibles.
Back in 2017, Trump was sworn in using the Bible used by the first US President, George Washington, back in 1789. But Trump also used a family Bible, one gifted by his mother, at the ceremony. He’s likely to use two Bibles again in 2017.

The incoming President could even add a third Bible to the collection if he decided to use his own Trump edition ‘Inauguration Day Bible’, currently priced at $69.99. Speaking in a promotional video, Trump said: “The biggest thing we have to bring back to America to make it great again is God.”
Why do presidents swear on the Bible?
The tradition of being sworn into office with a Bible is not common for many other heads of state but in in the United States it dates back to the very beginnings of the nation. At the first inauguration in 1789 President Washington was set to use a Bible in his oath but organisers had forgotten to bring one to the ceremony.
Washington had to borrow one from a Masonic lodge and that very edition has gone on to be used for many other subsequent presidents, including Jimmy Carter, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush.
Some did not use a Bible at all, including Theordore Roosevelt. and John Quincy Adams. Roosevelt opted not to use anything for his swearing-in, while Adams opted to signify his responsibility to uphold the Constitution by being sworn in on a legal book.
President Biden, similarly to Trump, used a Bible with familiar connections when he took the oath of office in 2017. Biden’s Bible had reportedly been in the family since the 19th century, which he had also used for his first Sensate swearing-in in 1973 and for both terms as vice president in 2009 and 2013.
