“To him, this is his hammer, and everything looks like a nail. He believes that, in almost everything, he knows more than others”

The LinkedIn co-founder has had his say on Elon Musk and how he is damaging America.

Update:

An ex-colleague of Elon Musk has opened up on the Tesla and SpaceX owner, saying that he is not one to take advice kindly.

Reid Hoffman, who co-founded LinkedIn and previously worked with Musk in the early days of PayPal, spoke on the ‘The Rest is Money’ podcast.

Musk has become a hugely influential figure in the Donald Trump administration. Unelected but with huge power, Musk is in charge of DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, tasked with trimming the fat of federal services.

While making the government more efficient is an idea we can all get behind, Musk’s extreme slash-and-burn tactics have come under fire, with thousands of employees losing their positions across a variety of departments.

While some cuts can be seen as acceptable, others have been pointed out as causing potential risks to human life, with some services now incredibly understaffed and unable to function at full capacity. Former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Administrator Rick Spinrad told AP that “this is not government efficiency. It is the first steps toward eradication. There is no way to make these kinds of cuts without removing or strongly compromising mission capabilities.”

‘If a government blows up, that’s a terror for all of society‘

“If a company goes boom and blows up and suddenly, you know, is just a smoking crater, it’s a tragedy … but it’s easily recoverable. If a government blows up, that’s a terror for all of society‚” Hoffman warned on Musk’s hellfire approach to cutting benefits for America’s most needy.

The reason Musk does not understand this, according to Hoffman, is Musk’s stubborn nature. “To him, this is his hammer, and everything looks like a nail,” Hoffman added. “And, you know, he doesn’t particularly consult with people. He doesn’t particularly seek other expert advice. He thinks that, on almost everything, he knows better than everyone else.”
