'The Daily Show' searching for new host after Trevor Noah departs

When Trevor Noah took over hosting ‘The Daily Show’ he had big shoes to fill replacing sixteen-year veteran Jon Stewart who helmed the show the “fixed” the news when it broke. Seven years later, the South African comedian leaves a similar situation for whomever Comedy Central choses to be the permanent front person.

On Thursday 8 December, Noah said goodbye to a ‘Daily Show’ that he crafted into his own. Being just over two-decades younger than Stewart, he was able to attract a more youthful audience. Using his perspective as an outsider and one of the few late-night hosts of color, he and his team created “one of the most dynamic and actually insightful in a genre,” according to The Guardian.

‘The Daily Show’ will take a brief hiatus for the holidays, but when the satirical program returns 17 January, it will feature a rotation of celebrity guest hosts. A permanent host is expected to be announced sometime in the future to start in the fall of 2023.

Who will replace Trevor Noah on the ‘The Daily Show’?

While Comedy Central keeps an open mind about who will replace Noah, the line-up of guest hosts that will sit behind the ‘Daily Show’ desk include a number of big names in the comedy business. According to Deadline the likes of Chelsea Handler, Kal Penn, Al Franken, Sarah Silverman and Leslie Jones are slated to take hosting duties.

The entertainment magazine also listed Wanda Sykes, DL Hughley, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans and Hasan Minhaj as guest hosts in the anchor chair. Each one is expected to have a week-long stent on the show that has become a defining political comedy series and a staple of late-night viewing.

Comedy Central may chose one of the temporary replacements or go with one of the veteran correspondents of the ‘The Daily Show’. These could include Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic and Roy Wood Jr.

Deadline says that producers are mulling the idea of expanding the number of anchors behind ‘The Daily Show’ desk. Instead of just one anchor there could be a duo or trio of hosts as the genre moves into a new era.
