Keanu Reeves wanted to kill the character in John Wick 4′

Series producer Basil Iwanyk reveals how tired Keanu Reeves is at the end of filming each installment.

Update:
Keanu Reeves John Wick

We still don’t know if there will be a fifth installment of the franchise after ‘John Wick 4′, but what is likely is that Keanu Reeves doesn’t have much desire left, even if he doesn’t rule it out 100%. You only have to watch the 3 hours of the fourth installment to imagine that the actor would end the shooting completely exhausted, just like the audience. In fact, the producer of the series, Basil Iwanyk, has confirmed that Reeves wanted Wick to be killed at the end.

It’s clear that each of the four films has been a tour de force for Reeves, and what’s more, according to Iwanyk, he practically begged for his character to die in the final film so he could take a final break.

“After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,” Iwanyk tells Collider. “By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’ We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a 10% little opening.’”

The Wick Universe Continues

Although the return of Keanu as the character is up in the air, the continuity of the universe in which it takes place is not, as this October 22nd, ‘The Continental’, the prequel series set in the famous hotel of the same name, premieres on Peacock. Colin Woodell, Mel Gibson and Mishel Prada will appear... but it won’t be the only production. In fact, more details are yet to be revealed about ‘Ballerina’, the spin-off movie starring Ana de Armas, which will premiere in 2024 at the earliest.
