Estados Unidos Update:

The Boston Red Sox made home advantage count at Fenway Park, clinching a 2-1 extra-innings win over the New York Yankees thanks to a walk-off single from Carlos Narváez that banged off the Green Monster. Garrett Crochet delivered a stellar start, pitching 8 1/3 innings and striking out Aaron Judge three times – though it was Judge who forced extras with a solo homer.

Boston’s starter racked up seven strikeouts and allowed just one walk. Crochet capped the first inning with a six-pitch showdown against Judge, whom he struck out swinging for the first time on the night.

The Red Sox got on the board in the second. Trevor Story scored after stealing second and being driven home by a blistering ground ball from Ceddanne Rafaela, which was stopped in center field by Cody Bellinger.

Crochet struck Judge out again to open the fourth – this time looking – and again in the sixth on a 99 mph fastball that landed outside the strike zone.

Boston had a golden chance to pad the lead in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with a Rafael Devers single and walks issued by Fernando Cruz to Narváez and Roman Anthony. But the threat fizzled out as Story flied out directly to left field.

Aaron Judge forces extras with ninth-inning blast

Leaving runners stranded proved costly. Judge smashed a solo home run in the top of the ninth to tie the game and end Crochet’s outing. Manager Alex Cora turned to Aroldis Chapman to prevent any further damage.

The Red Sox were held scoreless in the bottom half, pushing the game into extra innings. Anthony Volpe, starting on second as the ghost runner, tried to steal third but was caught in a sharp connection between Narváez and Marcelo Mayer. During DJ LeMahieu’s at-bat, umpire John Tumpane ejected Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and the batter himself was thrown out by the first-base ump after failing to beat out a grounder.

In the bottom of the 10th, the Yankees gave Boston an opening. Jarren Duran’s groundout allowed David Hamilton to advance to third. Then Carlos Narváez stepped up and delivered a game-winning single, sending Hamilton home and sealing the Red Sox victory in walk-off fashion.
