Padres star hospitalized after first-inning collision in Houston
San Diego wins 3–2 behind triple, RBI and 427-foot homer from Tatis Jr. as Luis Arráez exits after scary collision.

The San Diego Padres clung to a narrow 3–2 victory at Daikin Park on Sunday to avoid a series sweep against the Houston Astros. In the third and final game of the set, Fernando Tatis Jr. delivered all three runs for the visiting side, while the Astros marked their 10,000th game in Major League Baseball with a tough loss.
Tatis Jr. wasted no time asserting himself. In the top of the first, he ripped a triple before being driven home by Xander Bogaerts, opening the scoring for the Padres. In the third inning, Gavin Sheets knocked a single, allowing Tatis Jr. to cross the plate once again. Then came the knockout punch: a 427-foot solo home run to center field in the seventh, launched at 108.7 mph, which gave the Padres their final and decisive lead.
Astros rally in the fifth but fall short
After taking the first two games of the series, Houston responded in the bottom of the fifth. Mauricio Dubón drove in one run with a single, and Yordan Álvarez tied the game with a sacrifice fly. But despite their efforts – and a historic occasion marking their 10,000th game in franchise history – the Astros couldn’t complete the sweep.
San Diego’s bullpen held steady through the late innings to secure the win, salvaging a hard-fought series on the road.
Luis Arráez leaves game after collision with Dubón
The Padres’ victory came with a moment of concern. In the bottom of the first, first baseman Luis Arráez was involved in a heavy collision with Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón. Arráez was removed from the game and taken off the field, prompting immediate medical attention.
The Padres later issued a statement providing an update on his condition:“Luis Arráez was transported to Houston Methodist Hospital for further evaluation. He is currently stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities,” the club announced on social media.
While his status remains day-to-day pending additional testing, early signs suggest the Venezuelan infielder avoided serious injury.
