Are the Golden State Warriors going to trade for the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler?
With one veteran having left, the Golden State Warriors may look to bring in another to fill the void, and it could be one of the Miami Heat’s biggest stars.
There could be an interesting move on the horizon in the Bay Area this offseason as the Warriors look to reinforce their ranks. After seeing the departure of sharpshooter Klay Thompson, it’s clear the Warriors have some fixing to do which leads us to a rather interesting prospect.
Warriors could turn to Jimmy Butler
It’s no secret that the Warriors will be a new-look team when the 2024-25 NBA season gets underway. Following 11 seasons together, the franchise said goodbye to Klay Thompson as he made his move to the Dallas Mavericks. Now, as much as many expected the franchise to go after a player with a similar profile, the word on the street is that they may be contemplating something a little more radical.
According to a recent report from Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Warriors are currently weighing up the idea of trading for Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler. Speaking during Thursday’s episode of The TK Show with veteran Bay Area sportswriter Tim Kawakami, Amick indicated that the Warriors are in fact looking to make a move.
“You need the wheels to fall off somewhere - not free agency-wise, talking trade-wise,” Amick said. “A couple guys who come to mind, Jimmy Butler is going to be a free agent next summer. Didn’t get an extension done. The Warriors, as you know, have interest there and I think probably made a couple calls during the summer.” To be clear, Butler is in fact about to hit the final year of his contract which means he is set to earn $48.8 million. There is also a $52.4 million player option for 2026.
This is all to say that the idea does actually make sense. Fresh off a less-than-impressive season in which they finished on 46–36 season and missed the playoffs, the Warriors are in need of a change. To that end, it may be that in Butler they have found exactly what they’re looking for. Where the Heat are concerned, there is no doubt that there are questions being asked after exiting the playoffs in the first round just a year after winning the Eastern Conference title. Expect to see changes being made.
