Two of the most in-form teams in the NBA meet in the quarterfinals of the 2024 NBA Cup on Tuesday (December 10), with the Dallas Mavericks visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Mavs will be chasing an eighth consecutive victory but may have to find a way to win without key starter PJ Washington.

What issue does PJ Washington have?

Since returning from a knee injury last month, Washington has been one of Dallas’ top performers during their superb sequence of results, which has seen them rise to fourth in the Western Conference, as well as progress to the knockout stage of the NBA Cup.

The 26-year-old has also enjoyed recent success against the Thunder in a Mavs shirt, scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds in a game against Oklahoma earlier this the season. He previously averaged 17.7 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game and had a 46.9% three-point success rate when the teams met in last year’s Western Conference Semifinals, in which his free throws clinched the series in Game 6.

Washington is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s game because of illness, with a game time decision expected to be made on whether he features or not. Given his performances against the Thunder in the not-too-distant past, the Mavericks will be desperate to have the power forward available.

When is Thunder - Mavs in the 2024 NBA Cup?

The game between the Thunder and the Mavericks takes place at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, December 10, with tip-off at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.

The winner will face either the Houston Rockets or the Golden State Warriors in the semifinals at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, December 14.
