Will Tyrese Haliburton play for the Indiana Pacers against the Detroit Pistons today?
The Pacers star was an unwelcome name on the official NBA injury list ahead of the game.
A strong recent run from the Pacers, in which they didn’t taste defeat in six, was cut short by the Cavaliers on Tuesday. However, the loss will surely not be more than a bump in the road for the team who look to be finding some real form as we plough through a busy January.
Bit it wasn’t just the defeat, as the Pacers were notably without Tyrese Haliburton, who was forced off in the second quarter of the previous game against the Cavs, played on Sunday, with an injury.
The physical issue caused him to be sent down the tunnel by medical staff and as a result he missed out on the second half of the weekend’s action and the entirety of Tuesday’s subsequent loss.
What injury does Tyrese Haliburton have?
The point guard, a key figure at the Pacers since his move from the Sacramento Kings in 2022, was immediately diagnosed with a hamstring issue, trigger words for fans of the Indiana side.
Last season, Haliburton missed a chunk of on-court action due to an injury to the same muscle, but the sighs of relief were audible for miles when the issue was quickly downgraded to a mild groin strain.
Will he play against the Pistons?
Ahead of the game against the Pistons, he is listed on the official injury report as ‘questionable’, meaning that the medical staff are yet to give him the green light to play and a decision will be made closer to the game.
Throughout the current season, Haliburton’s impact on the Pacers has been undeniable: his offensive output is almost unmatched in terms of impact on his teammates; he is averaging 18.1 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.6 rebounds so far this year and continues to be a huge cog in the machine.
At the time of writing the Pacers sit in 6th position in the NBA Eastern Conference, with their recent form doing a lot to push them upwards in the table. They currently have a 22-19 record and sit just one place above their upcoming opponents, the Detroit Pistons.
