Update:

Well, we all saw this coming.

The Dallas Cowboys owe Micah Parsons an extension. It’s coming. He knows it, they know it, we all know it. But it’s the Cowboys. So as per usual, they are going to ride it out until it becomes even pricier to extend him.

They did it with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, and now they’ve done it with Parsons.

Watt’s deal makes Parsons richer

Parsons has been waiting on this deal to get done for over a year. Dallas could’ve done it last season, but their priorities were getting Dak and CeeDee’s deals done. But even with those, they waited until the last minute. They let CeeDee hold out for the entirety of training camp and only signed Dak the day before the regular season started.

And he ended up becoming the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history and then missing half the season, but I digress.

The longer they wait, the higher the price tag goes up as other players at Parsons’ position ink their own deals. And that’s exactly what’s happened...again.

T.J. Watt signed a three-year, $121 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history - a title Parsons has been expecting to hold for a while now. Watt’s contract being signed before his makes that very possible still.

Watt will earn $41 million a year and his contract includes $180 million fully guaranteed. The Cowboys will now have to pay at least that amount to Parsons - a fate they could’ve avoided had they just acted sooner.
