Set to visit both, will Odell Beckham Jr. choose the Dallas Cowboys or his former team the New York Giants?
Will he play for the ‘Boys’ or his former team in the ‘Big Apple’ and more importantly, will the result of their Thanksgiving showdown have an effect on his decision?
Though they are set to meet on Thanksgiving Day, it’s actually an off-the-field battle between the Giants and Cowboys that’s stealing all the attention at the moment and there is a certain wide receiver at the center of it all.
Odell Beckham Jr. set to visit Cowboys and Giants
According to reports, free agent Odell Beckham Jr. is set to visit the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys after their clash on Thanksgiving Day. To be clear, there has been no official word on any other teams that the former Rams wide receiver is due to visit, so for the moment this is where we’re at. Incidentally, this won’t be the first time that the 30-year-old has paid a visit to his former team, having visited the Giants facility earlier this month to check up on former teammate Sterling Shepard, following Shepard’s ACL tear. It’s worth noting, that Beckham had no interaction with management on that occasion.
Also worth noting, is the fact that OBJ has not played in some time. Indeed, the wideout is now in the final stages of recovery from his very own ACL tear and subsequent operation to correct the problem. Fans will recall, that Beckham suffered the injury during the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory back in February. With that said, it appears that he’s as fit as a fiddle and ready to go, meaning whichever team manages to secure his services will likely receive a boost in their bid to be contenders. Funnily enough, that’s more or less what he did for the Rams last season and would probably have capped it off with an MVP award in the big game itself were it not for the injury.
Cowboys’ Jerry Jones is an OBJ fan
If there’s one thing the Cowboys have made clear, it’s that they’d gladly have OBJ on their roster. Speaking during a recent radio appearance, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones couldn’t hide his appreciation for the prolific pass-catcher. “He made the greatest catch I’ve seen, other than the one Dez (Bryant) made for the touchdown against Green Bay,” Jones said at the time. “Bottom line is, Odell is a player that I admire a lot.” Interestingly, Jones also confirmed that the Cowboys and OBJ would in fact be having a meeting in the near future. “That’s my understanding, too,” Jones said.
Could OBJ return to the New York Giants?
As one of the most recognized sports teams in the world - not just NFL - playing for the Dallas Cowboys is a big deal. Yet, it’s got to be said that OBJ and the Giants just might have unfinished business. Add to that, the fact that he’s got a few friends in New York and it starts to make even more sense. Long-time buddy and Giants star Saquon Barkley attended Beckham’s birthday just earlier this month and in a move that further fueled speculation, made some interesting comments recently.
“I saw Micah (Parsons) tweet something at him. ...Why wouldn’t you want him on your team,” Barkley said. “There’s not really a sales pitch here. It’s New York. It’s the Giants. ...I don’t have to tweet at him. He knows how I feel. He knows how we feel in this locker room.” Keep an eye on this one and if not, then be sure to check in with us because we certainly will.
