Update:

There are sports, and then there are sports shows. We love the sports, and we watch the sports, and we follow the sports, but every now and then there is a sports show that almost eclipses the game. Red Zone is a show that shows the game, it shows all the games.

Sixteen years of Hanson

It’s one of the most innovative and game changing products the NFL has ever implemented, and has given fans around the world a chance to keep up with all the action on Sundays in a simultaneous fashion.

Since its inception back in 2009, Scott Hanson has been the host bringing us “seven hours of commercial free football” every Sunday during the NFL’s regular season. His long reign may be coming to an end after his contract ran out at the end of this season.

He is as beloved as the show itself and has become synonymous with Red Zone. We tune in for football, but we stay for Hanson. Now, with his contract up it will be up to the two parties to either come to an agreement or move in different directions.

Olympics on the agenda, but no Red Zone, yet

Front Office Sports says that Hanson is “still in negotiations to return to NFL Media,” but talks have stalled as ESPN continue to negotiate for the rights to NFL Media and it’s star product, NFL Red Zone.

There are also reports of Hanson in talks with NBCUniversal to the Olympics Games in a Red Zone sort of format. Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports said, “NBC is eyeing Hanson to return as Gold Zone’s primary prime-time host for the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics and possibly the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics”

Hanson was in Paris covering the Summer Games as the host of Gold Zone in 2024 and looks to be in line to play the host against for the next two Olympic events at the very least.
