What's next for Packers' Josh Jacobs? NFL could step in as RB faces multiple charges
The Green Bay running back was arrested in Wisconsin after a domestic violence investigation and could face both legal and NFL disciplinary consequences.

Josh Jacobs, running back for the Green Bay Packers, was arrested Tuesday morning and booked into the Brown County Jail in Wisconsin following an investigation tied to a complaint filed on May 23. The news, first reported by Adam Schefter, quickly sent shockwaves across the NFL.

According to the report, Jacobs is facing five separate charges connected to an alleged domestic violence case. The accusations include domestic abuse and battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, strangulation and suffocation, as well as intimidation of a victim. Authorities have not yet released further details about the incident or the identity of the alleged victim.
A major blow for Green Bay
The timing is particularly damaging for the Packers, who made a significant investment in Jacobs as a central piece of their offense heading into the upcoming season. The former Las Vegas Raiders standout had established himself as one of the league’s most productive running backs in recent years and was expected to anchor Green Bay’s offensive plans.

An outright release would leave behind $6.25M of dead cap ($3.125M each of 2026/2027 after June 1st).
The NFL typically handles these situations under its Personal Conduct Policy, regardless of the legal process. That means Jacobs could face league discipline even before any court resolution is reached. So far, neither the Packers nor the NFL have issued official statements, while Jacobs has denied the allegations through a statement released by his attorneys.

The situation creates immediate uncertainty around one of Green Bay’s most important players ahead of the 2026 season. Jacobs had been regaining top form and aiming to relaunch his career with a playoff-contending franchise. Now, the focus has shifted entirely away from football to a legal process that is only just beginning.
