There is no Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods at the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2025, yet there will undoubtedly be other stories to be told in this week’s PGA Tour event at Detroit Golf Club.
What was once a six-hole course when it was founded in 1899, DGC now has 36 holes of championship golf, split between the North Course and South Course. The course was designed by Donald Ross, whose brother, Alec, was the winner of the 1907 US Open.
The Rocket Classic has been played at Detroit Golf Club since 2019, when the event replaced the Quickens Loans National on the schedule. The tournament became the first in the history of the PGA Tour to be played entirely within the Detroit City limits.

Privately-owned golf club
The club is privately-owned, meaning only members or acquaintances of members have the opportunity to play the North and South Courses.
How much does it cost to become a member of Detroit Golf Club?
Detroit Golf Club offers different membership types, including Class A, Junior, Intermediate, House, Non-Resident, and Corporate.
Class A is the most common membership for golfers, which offers members full golfing privileges. If accepted, the initiation fee is $18,500, although there have been reports the club is set to increase that figure by up to 15 percent as part of an overhaul of its courses after this year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic.
There are also monthly dues, which aren’t made available to the public. Country Club Magazine estimates them to be about $220.
Non-members can play Detroit Golf Club, but only as guests of a member.
