The ‘Block party’ is back at the PGA Championship in 2025: America’s favorite club professional will be at Quail Hollow
Club pro Michael Block is once again in the field for the PGA Championship, two years after his sensational run at the major.

Club professional Michael Block will this week attempt to repeat the “magical” run he enjoyed at the 2023 PGA Championship, having again qualified for the year’s second major.
How did Block qualify for the PGA Championship?
The head golf pro at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, Block will make his seventh career appearance at the PGA Championship, having booked his spot at Quail Hollow Club with a top-20 finish at last month’s PGA Professional Championship.
“A magical carpet ride”
Two years ago, the 48-year-old American came from nowhere to tie for 15th place at the PGA Championship, in a stunning performance that represents the only occasion he has ever made the cut at a major.
Block capped a fairytale week at Oak Hill Country Club by claiming the 2023 event’s only hole in one - a slam-dunk shot on the 15th that left him in visible and audible disbelief.
“It didn’t go in, did it?” Block could be heard asking his final-round playing partner, Rory McIlroy. “No, no, no!”
“That was a magical carpet ride, for sure,” Block told an interview last year, as he looked back on his PGA Championship heroics.
“I literally felt like that the entire week, to tell you the truth. It was just kind of a blur, a surreal moment. Exactly what you, sitting at home, would think it’s like.”
Block’s high finish in 2023 earned him automatic qualification for last year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla, where a score of seven over - the same as former world No. 1 Tiger Woods - meant elimination after 36 holes.
However, by tying for third place at the 2025 PGA Professional Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the veteran has now earned another chance to upset the odds on the big stage.
“I’m going to Quail Hollow and I’m very happy”
“The goal this week was to kind of show my kid [caddie Ethan] the nuances of playing golf, and I think I did,” Block said after sealing PGA Championship qualification, per Golf Digest. “Keep it in the fairway off the tee. Hit the green. If you miss the green, get up and down, make a conservative chip, and then be a decent putter. I think I showed him a good way to do it.
“And if I finish third, fourth or fifth, or whatever it is, as long as I’m in the top 20, I’m going to Quail Hollow and I’m very happy.”
