The Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full force with the Second Round starting next week. In the Eastern Conference, all the matches are set. The Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs will face off in an Atlantic Division battle, and the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals in a Metro Division Showdown.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Second Round: Eastern Conference

The Toronto Maple Leafs booked their ticket to the second round of the postseason after beating the Ottawa Senators. This will be their second time in the playoffs in three seasons.

They’ll have a tough road ahead though as they will face the defending champion Florida Panthers, who defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round...and made it look easy.

“It’s going to be another hard series,” said Toronto’s Auston Matthews. “They’re obviously defending champs, back-to-back Cup Finals - it’s going to be hard. We’ve definitely got to reset, do our homework, rest up and go in there with some confidence. Go in there with some pushback.”

The Washington Capitals advanced after a 4-1 victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference first round, giving them extra time to prepare.

They’ll be preparing to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Second Round, the second playoff series between the two teams. The first was in the First Round of 2018, when the Hurricanes eliminated the Capitals in double overtime.

“It’ll be nice to get another crack at them from a few years back,” said Capitals right wing Tom Wilson. “They compete very hard. You know what you’re going to get from them. You’re going to get their all – all their work ethic. We’re going to have to dictate play and worry about our game and make sure we’re really focused and dialed in, because there’s not going to be a lot of time and space out there.”
