What is Sinner’s ATP ranking after winning the 2024 US Open?
The Italian cruised past Taylor Fritz at Flushing Meadows winning the title in straight sets
Italian Jannik Sinner beat American 12th seed Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5 in the U.S. Open men’s final on Sunday.
Despite coming into the competition under a cloud of controversy at the start of the tournament after revelations that he tested positive twice for an anabolic agent in March but avoided a ban when an independent tribunal accepted his claim that the positive tests were the result of an unintentional contamination, Sinner was a warmly applauded after the straight sets win.
Many of the fans including high profile stars such as Dustin Hoffman, Seal, Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift present at the Arthur Ashe Stadium were hoping to see Fritz end a 21-year U.S. men’s Grand Slam drought but it wasn’t to be as the Italian was in devastating form.
Sinner’s win in Flushing Meadows saw him claim his second Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open earlier this year.
Sinner tops the ranking
With his win in New York, the 23-year-old compounds his position at the top of the ATP rankings as he collected a cash prize of $3.6 million plus 1,820 ranking points.
