Ciudad de México Update:

Julián Quiñones, fresh off scoring four goals for Mexico at the 2026 World Cup, has become one of the hottest names on the global transfer market. Chelsea and Aston Villa have both shown strong interest in bringing the 23‑year‑old forward to the Premier League. But there’s one massive obstacle standing in the way.

An expensive deterrent

Quiñones recently left Club América for Al‑Qadisiya in Saudi Arabia — and signed a new contract that makes any move incredibly complicated. According to ESPN, the Saudi club has set his release clause at a staggering $200 million, meaning that’s the price any team would have to pay to pry him away this summer.

That figure dwarfs earlier reports suggesting Quiñones would cost around €70 million (about $76 million), a fee that would already make him the most expensive Mexican player in history, surpassing Hirving “Chucky” Lozano’s transfer from PSV to Napoli.

With Chelsea and Aston Villa intrigued but not desperate, that $200 million clause will likely keep Quiñones in Saudi Arabia — even after his breakout World Cup performance put him firmly on Europe’s radar.

Quiñones’ historic run with Mexico

Quiñones delivered one of the best World Cup performances ever by a Mexican player, scoring four goals at the North America 2026 tournament. That total ties the all‑time Mexican World Cup record held by Javier “Chicharito” Hernández and Luis “El Matador” Hernández.

He also matched El Matador’s legendary four‑goal showing at France 1998 — becoming just the second Mexican player to score four times in a single World Cup.

A historic tournament, a skyrocketing market value… and a release clause big enough to freeze the transfer market in place.
