Alarm bells for Bayern Munich as Harry Kane injury concern grows before Real Madrid clash
Kane missed both of England’s March friendlies, leaving Bayern sweating ahead of their Champions League clash against Madrid.
England faltered, and Bayern Munich is holding its breath. The Three Lions failed to win either of their international friendlies during the break, capped by a historic defeat to Japan at Wembley Stadium, the first time an Asian national team has ever won there. But the bigger story was who wasn’t on the field: Harry Kane.
His absence loomed large, quickly becoming a major talking point across England. Now, with just days to go before Bayern’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, concern has shifted squarely to Munich.
Kane injury raises concern
Head coach Thomas Tuchel described Kane’s absence as due to a “minor issue” picked up just 15 minutes into training on the eve of the Japan match. The explanation was brief, and hardly reassuring.
British media later reported it was a knock to the foot, though Tuchel offered no further details. According to multiple German outlets, Bayern’s medical staff are set to evaluate Kane on Wednesday afternoon, a checkup that could ease concerns or deepen them.
In Harry Kane, England might have the current best player in the world for the first time in their history. That is both a great blessing and a potential curse - Kane will define the summer.

England feel Kane’s absence
For England, this could become a longer-term concern. For Bayern, it is immediate.
Kane missed both friendlies, including a 1-1 draw with Uruguay, where Federico Valverde scored for the South American side, and England clearly felt the difference.
“Doesn’t Argentina depend on Messi? Or Portugal on Cristiano?” Tuchel said, defending his team’s reliance on their star striker. “Bayern without Kane doesn’t have the same threat. No team in the world would. That’s normal.”
Bayern without Kane
It would be an oversimplification to call Bayern overly reliant on Kane. The German giants delivered a dominant 6-1 win over Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 matchup in Bergamo without him.
Still, the numbers tell a compelling story. Bayern’s only two losses this season have come in games where Kane failed to score.
That is a rare occurrence. The England captain has 48 goals in 40 appearances for Bayern this season, the best single-season tally of his career. In the Champions League, only Kylian Mbappe, with 13 goals, has outscored Kane, who has already hit double digits in the competition.
As Bayern awaits clarity on their star forward’s condition, the stakes could hardly be higher.
