As if Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League defeat to Feyenoord wasn’t painful enough for Bayern Munich - it got even worse for the Bundesliga giants this morning as they licked their wounds.

Details emerged about the gravity of Alphonso Davies' injury. The Canadian full-back was replaced at half-time, with Raphaël Guerreiro coming on in his place.

Medical tests conducted this morning confirmed a muscle strain that will keep the defender sidelined for the next few weeks. “Alphonso Davies suffered a sprain to his left hamstring during last night’s Champions League match against Feyenoord in Rotterdam,” a club statement read.

How long will Davies be out?

Medical staff expect the 24-year-old full-back to be out of action for an estimated period of between two and three weeks. It means he won’t be available for the final group phase game against Slovan Bratislava next week (29 January).

Bayern currently sit 15th on 12 points and considering the teams above them in the standings, it’s unlikely that the team will qualify for the next round automatically as one of the eight top finishers.

So being realistic, Brian Priske‘s are heading for the playoffs - and Davies is certain to miss the first leg.

The draw for the 2025 Champions League play-offs will be held at midday in Nyon on 31 January 2025. The first legs will be played on 11 and 12 February.
