Ancelotti set for Brazil: this is the Real Madrid boss’s deal with the Seleçao
AS understands that Carlo Ancelotti is to take over the Brazil team this summer, vacating his Real Madrid post before the Club World Cup.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is to be appointed as the new head coach of the Brazil men’s national team, AS has learned.
When will Ancelotti leave Real Madrid?
The Italian is expected to take charge of the Brazilians in June, when the Seleçao face two key qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
He won’t be at the Madrid helm for this summer’s expanded Club World Cup, which takes place in the United States between mid-June and mid-July.
How much will Ancelotti earn as Brazil boss?
Ancelotti is set to be paid around $11 million a year as Brazil head coach, with the Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF) preparing to hand the 65-year-old a contract running until the end of next year’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
His deal will include an option to extend until the 2030 World Cup, whose chief hosts will be Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Ancelotti to replace sacked Dorival
While nothing has been signed, AS understands that Ancelotti has already told members of his Madrid roster that he is to become Brazil’s new boss.
Despite also targeting former Flamengo head coach Jorge Jesus, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues has maintained a long-term interest in Ancelotti, having first held talks with the coach in 2023.
The CBF is not expected to confirm Ancelotti’s appointment until after his end-of-season departure from Madrid has been announced.
The five-time Champions League-winning coach will take the Brazil reins in place of Dorival Júnior, who was sacked last month after his team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Argentina - their fifth loss of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Brazil, who won the last of their five world titles in 2002, currently occupy the fourth of six automatic World Cup berths in South America’s 10-team qualification tournament.
They face Ecuador and Paraguay in their next two qualifiers, on June 3 and June 8, respectively.
Three-time European champion with Real
Now in his second spell as Madrid head coach, Ancelotti has won two LaLiga titles and three Champions Leagues with Los Blancos, in addition to two Copas del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups and one FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
This season, however, he has overseen a disappointing campaign in which Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Arsenal, and lost the finals of the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup to arch rivals Barcelona.
Barça are also in pole position to win LaLiga. Second-placed Madrid sit four points behind the Catalans, with five games to go.
