It’s not the first offer of its kind, and it won’t be the last, but this one has certainly turned heads. In recent days, super-agent Jorge Mendes presented Real Madrid with a high-profile name at Valdebebas, a player who has already confirmed he will leave his current club at the end of the season. That player is Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.

Bernardo Silva planning next move after Manchester City exit

The Portuguese midfielder is nearing the end of his time in the Premier League, with both sides agreeing that their successful partnership will come to a close. Silva believes he still has what it takes, physically and mentally, to compete at the highest level, and he wants to remain among the elite. That ambition has led him to consider a move to Real Madrid as a potential next step ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Real Madrid unmoved despite admiration

Despite the high-profile nature of the offer, it has not altered Real Madrid’s plans. The club is not currently looking to sign a player who has played such a central role in recent clashes between City and Madrid over the past decade.

Silva has been on both sides of defining moments in that rivalry, from playing a key role in eliminating Carlo Ancelotti’s side to his involvement in the most recent meeting, which included a penalty and a red card. While Madrid’s respect for Silva’s talent is unquestioned, he is not part of the club’s long-term vision at this time.

Barcelona links and strong form keep options open

Silva has also been linked with Barcelona on multiple occasions and has been offered to the Catalan club as well. At 31, he is now weighing his options after nine seasons at Manchester City, all under Pep Guardiola.

His performances suggest there has been no drop-off. Silva has made 46 appearances this season, underlining his continued importance and consistency at the highest level.

Trophies still within reach before departure

Before deciding on his future, Silva remains focused on finishing strong with City. The club is chasing major silverware, including a Premier League title that once looked out of reach but is now back in their control with five games remaining.

City is also on the verge of another FA Cup final, with Southampton standing between them and a spot in the showpiece match.

World Cup ambition with Portugal

Beyond club soccer, Silva has another major goal on the horizon. He is part of a Portugal squad aiming to win its first-ever World Cup, an achievement that has eluded even Cristiano Ronaldo and previous generations.

For Silva, the next chapter is approaching fast, but there is still plenty left to accomplish before he turns the page.
