Betis vs Manchester United preview

Betis

Anything is possible in soccer, and that’s what the Spanish side may be thinking ahead of their game against Manchester United on Thursday at Estadio Benito Villamarín.

The Andalusian team lost 4-1 to Manchester United at Old Trafford in their Europa League round of 16 first-leg clash.

Betis, who are sitting fifth in the LaLiga standings with 42 points, will have a huge task ahead of them against a team that has plenty of experience in Europe. Moreover, Los Verdiblancos have only recorded one victory from their last seven home matches.

No team has overturned such a goal difference since the 2013-2014 campaign in the Europa League when Valencia lost 3-0 to Basel in the first leg before thrashing the Swiss team 5-0 in the second-leg clash.

Manchester United

Meanwhile, the visitors, sitting third in the Premier League table with 50 points, will go into the game against Betis hoping to progress to the next round with ease.

Erik ten Hag’s men, who were held to a 0-0 draw at home against Southampton in their last match, seem to become another team in Europe, as they proved against Barcelona in both games and lastly against Betis last time out.

The Red Devils have just won two of their last six away games, but have never been eliminated from the last 16 of the Europa League when they came out on top in the first leg and haven’t tasted defeat in their last four trips to Spain.

Betis vs Manchester United: prediction

The hosts will have little pressure in their second-leg clash with United and that may help us create goal opportunities and find the back of the net. But will that be enough to repeat Valencia’s 2013-2014 feat? Very unlikely.

Prediction: Betis 1-1 Manchester United
