Haji Wright could be the next USMNT striker in the World Cup

The United States men’s national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has two doubts ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The first one is who the starting goalkeeper will be with Zack Steffen suffering from injuries over the past few months and the lack of playing time he has seen with Manchester City.

The second doubt is who the striker will be in Qatar in November for the USMNT because Ricardo Pepi is not in good form and the last time he scored a goal for club or country was in October 2021. Berhalter used Jordan Pefok and Jesus Ferreira in the final batch of the qualifiers in CONCACAF last month, but they also failed to score for the USMNT.

A new striker emerges for USMNT

Gregg Berhalter could already have his new striker in his sights with Haji Wright, who is American, is emerging as a real option for the upcoming friendlies. The 24-year-old scored a brace on Monday night to give Antalyaspor a 4-1 win against Hatayspor.

Wright has a total of nine goals, including a hat-trick against Rizepor, and one assist in 26 appearances in the Turkish league this campaign and he could receive a call up with the USMNT. The Los Angeles native made his debut in the Bundesliga in 2018 with Schalke 04 and he has played for the United States at the 2015 U17 World Cup.
