EURO 2024

How much is the Euro 24 trophy worth, and what is it made of?

Spain and England will battle for the trophy this Sunday, July 14. However, it is not the original one given to the Soviet Union for the first time in 1960.

Spain and England play in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, to determine the Euro 2024 champion. The Spanish want to return to European glory after 12 years, while the English wish to end a 58-year drought and lift their first Euros title. However, whoever has the privilege of lifting such a prestigious trophy will only receive a replica of the title, not the same one the Soviet Union lifted for the first time in 1960.

The original trophy, also known as Henri Delaunay’s Cup, was designed by the French company Chobillon, weighed 10 kilograms, and was worth $25.000. Delaunay was UEFA’s first secretary and promoter of the first-ever Euros edition, but unfortunately passed away in 1955, before the first competition took place. His son paid tribute to his father by adding his name to the trophy.

In 2006, British jewelry company Asprey designed a new prototype for the 2008 Euros edition, which was held in Austria and Switzerland and won by Spain. The trophy resembles its predecessor, with slight weight, height, and material variations.

What is the Euro 24 trophy made of?

The Euro 2024 trophy is 92.5% silver and the rest copper. Unlike the original, the replica doesn’t have a marble base. Instead, UEFA decided to replace it with an 18-centimeter silver base. What’s more, the new trophy weighs 8 kg and has a height of 60 centimeters.

How much is the Euro 24 trophy worth?

The Euro 2024 trophy is worth $16,700 (15,400 euros), $8,300 less than the original. It is valued for the materials used and the hours of work by the craftsmen involved.
