Bayern Munich have just appointed Max Eberl as their new director of sport and he already has a number of issues to resolve for next season. In addition to finding a successor for outgoing head coach Thomas Tuchel, Eberl must settle the future of left-back Alphonso Davies, who is wanted by Real Madrid. The Canadian hasn’t reached an agreement with the Bundesliga giants to extend his contract beyond 2025, with reports from Germany suggesting there is little chance of that happening.

What salary has Davies asked Bayern for?

According to German newspaper Bild and broadcaster Sky Germany, the defender had asked for a new deal worth €20 million ($21.71 million) per season, which Bayern are not willing to pay. The Bavarians feel they will be forced to sell Davies this summer and will set an asking price of between €50 million ($54.3 million) and €60 million ($65.14 million), a high figure considering interested clubs would only have to wait one more season to sign him for free. As a result, Madrid aren’t prepared to spend big to get their man.

Who do Bayern want as Davies’ replacement?

With Davies almost certain to move on sooner rather than later, Eberl has already identified a replacement.

According to Sky Germany, AC Milan’s Theo Hernández, the brother of former Bayern defender Lucas, is the man they are after, although the Germans believe they won’t be able to sign the Frenchman for less than €60 million ($65.14 million).

As a result, they will look to sell Davies in the summer transfer window, a strategy which isn’t helped by the fact he could be picked up for free just 12 months down the line.
