Keylor Navas breaks his silence after Pumas’ Liga MX final loss
In the wake of Pumas’ defeat to Cruz Azul in the Clausura 2026 final, goalkeeper Navas sent a message to the fans.
Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has broken his silence following Pumas’ loss to Cruz Azul in the Liga MX final, taking to social media with a message for the club’s fanbase.
“Immense pride”
The veteran shot-stopper was one of the most influential players in Pumas’ Clausura 2026 campaign, but could not prevent Los Universitarios from going down to a 2-1 aggregate defeat in Sunday’s deciding leg.
On Tuesday, Navas wrote on Instagram: “Thankful to have made it to the final and fought for the title until the very last minute. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be.
“All that’s left is to congratulate the champions, feel immense pride in everything we accomplished this year, and give thanks for the unconditional support you’ve shown us.”
Pumas’ standout performer in the Clausura 2026
Regardless of the result in the final, Navas’ displays in the Clausura 2026 tournament stand out as one of the brightest spots for Pumas. The former Real Madrid star established himself as both captain and leader under head coach Efraín Juárez, delivering in decisive moments.
Most notably, Pumas lost out to Cruz Azul for the title despite Navas taking center stage with several crucial saves during the championship series.
His international pedigree and extensive European experience made him a cornerstone in the locker room during a campaign that saw Pumas return to a Liga MX final for the first time since 2020.

Following Navas’ post, hundreds of messages flooded social media in support of the goalkeeper. Many Pumas supporters credited the 39-year-old as a key reason the team made it to the final and urged him to remain part of the project heading into the next tournament.
