A World Cup always serves as an important springboard for many players and this is true of those who are in the final stages of their contracts with their respective clubs.

A case in point is Alejandro el ‘Papu’ Gómez, who despite having a contract with Sevilla through to 2024 could leave Jorge Sampaoli’s team early next year to embark on a new adventure in the final stage of his career.

According to reports by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Argentine national team and former Atalanta player could leave Sevilla in 2023 and is on the radar of a handful of MLS clubs.

Serie A return for Papu Gómez?

Another alternative on the table for Gómez is to return to Italy with the Argentine having played in more than 250 games for Bergamo based Atalanta.

Although Papu Gómez was recently linked to AC Monza, the president of the Italian side denied all rumors linking the Argentine with the club, assuring that “We have not entered into conversations to sign Papu Gómez”, affirmed Adriano Galliani.
