Pedri injury update: will he play for Barcelona in the Champions League against PSG?
Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen are set to return in the UCL, although Barça are rather less optimistic about Pedri.
Barcelona are still four days away from the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, but we have a much clearer idea of whether midfield duo Pedri and Frenkie de Jong will be available after recent injuries.
Barça suffer Pedri blow: what injury does he have?
The Spanish international is unlikely to be involved in Wednesday’s game, although the Dutchman is almost certain to be in contention to play. Both players were put through their paces on Saturday, with contrasting outcomes.
While Pedri only did a little over half of the training session, de Jong trained as normal with the rest of his teammates without any issues.
As a result, it appears highly unlikely the former Las Palmas youngster will make the matchday squad for the midweek game in Paris. As previously reported by AS, Barça are not prepared to rush the 21-year-old back into action as he has already suffered a number of similar muscle injuries in his short career, including three this season. The latest of them has affected his hamstring.
De Jong and Andres Christensen expected to be fit to play PSG
De Jong, on the other hand, felt no discomfort during or after the session and appears set to make his return to the Barcelona squad against PSG after missing the last four games beacuse of an ankle problem. Whether he starts in France or is named on the bench remains to be seen.
There are also good news regarding Andreas Christensen, who looks to have recovered from an Achilles tendon problem, which means he will also be available.
There are still two training sessions to go before the Champions League last eight clash at the Parc des Princes, which will give Xavi a little more time to decide which players travel to the French capital. As of today, however, it seems clear Pedri won’t be one of them.
