All 18 Liga MX sides are now on a level playing field in terms of matches played as the rescheduled matchday 10 Monterrey vs Santos game was played last night at the Estadio BBVA.

The objective for Rayados was a win, secure three points and avoid serious injuries with just one game left of the regular season and Fernando Ortiz’s men completed all tasks with relative ease against Santos Laguna.

It took just three minutes for the first goal as Alfonso González sent the ball to the heart of the area where Maxi Meza was waiting to pounce and the Argentine, unchallenged settled any early nerves for the home side.

Santos battled valiantly and managed to keep Rayados at bay until the 73rd minute when Argentine Germán Berterame pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box to drill home with César Garza bagging a third and final goal in the 88th minute of the contest.

At the BBVA Stadium this season, Monterrey have picked 18 points of their 32 total in the Apertura 2023. In their eight home games, Rayados have just been beaten twice at home during the campaign (Cruz Azul and America), the sides to leave Monterrey with maximum points).

What’s up next for Rayados and Santos?

On the final weekend of the Apertura 2023, Monterrey closes the regular season against the Gallos Blancos del Querétaro at the Corregidora Stadium with Santos Laguna set to face Atlético San Luis at home with a win imperative for the hoops to maintain postseason dreams alive.
