Supermodel Adriana Lima takes up FIFA role
When it came to picking a fresh face to head up a newly created position as fan ambassador, Gianni Infantino thinks this star had the right appeal.
Football’s governing body FIFA has designated Adriana Lima, the prominent Brazilian supermodel, actress, and entrepreneur, widely recognised as a global fashion icon and one of the most accomplished models ever, as the first-ever FIFA Global Fan Ambassador. So, what does that mean?
Adriana Lima joins FIFA
“When you get to meet Adriana, you feel right away her warmth, kindness, and how approachable and passionate she is about our game,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the statement announcing the organisation’s new ambassador. “She lives and breathes ‘futebol’ and that is also why she can be an excellent link between FIFA and fans worldwide.”
Adriana gave her own thoughts on being appointed to the newly created role.
“Coming from a more than modest background and being a football fan, I am very thankful and honoured to have been chosen by FIFA to be the first Global Fan Ambassador,” she said, “and to be given such a platform to help fans get even closer to the game.”
Lima’s role will be to “develop, promote and participate in several global initiatives involving fans from all over the world,” and she will also present the FIFA Fan Award at The Best FIFA Football Awards on Monday night in Paris.
