Will Ter Stegen leave Barcelona? How much has been offered to the Barcelona goalkeeper from Saudi Arabia?
It has been reported that Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, has received a significant offer to play in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi shocks never fail to wobble the football world and this time the epicentre is on Spain’s east coast. Reports suggest that FC Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, has been sent a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, one that could potentially tempt him away from LaLiga.
It has been reported that the German goalkeeper, currently number one choice at the reigning Primera División champions, has been offered a move to the Asian kingdom that has seen huge stars such as Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Firminho and Kanté pack their bags and leave football’s elite.
Now it is the turn of the Barcelona goalkeeper, who has been plying his trade at the 5-time European champions since 2014, when he moved from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Ter Stegen has established himself as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers and played a key role in Barcelona’s title winning season last year, where he conceded just 20 goals in 38 games. The shot stopper is known for his fantastic ability with the ball at his feet, as well as his sensational 1vs1 capabilities.
‘Ter Stegen has received a very interesting offer’
The report comes from Achraf Ben Ayad, who writes for Catalan media outlet, Mundo Deportivo. His tweet, written in both Arabic and Spanish, says the following: “Exclusive: Ter Stegen has received a very interesting offer from Saudi Arabia”.
Given the lack of information at this time, we cannot be sure of the amount of money Barcelona have been offered - if any at all - as well as the wage packet potentially offered to the player. Ter Stegen’s contract at Barcelona ends in 2028, meaning that his current club would certainly have the upper hand if they were to enter into negotiations over a potential sale.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has spent a lot of the present season on the sidelines due to a mysterious back injury which has kept him out for a long period, meaning Iñaki Peña has had to step in and deputise. Over this time, the second-choice stopper has shown himself to be more than an adequate substitution for the German; despite not being at the same elite level as the number one, his positive performances in Ter Stegen’s absence would certainly calm any nerves were the German actually to leave.
As well as this, the aforementioned contract situation with Ter Stegen and Barcelona put the club in a hugely advantageous position should it come to asking for a transfer fee; add that to the seemingly endless pot of money with which Saudi Arabia have been waving at European clubs over the past few transfer windows and Barcelona’s critical financial position, and all of a sudden a deal seems like it might just make sense for both sides...
