Zé Roberto in the history books after Palmeiras title victory
The former Real Madrid player became the oldest player in the history of the Brazilian league to win the title and at 42 he has no plans to retire yet.
Zé Roberto has had an eclectic career, playing briefly for Real Madrid (15 appearances in the 1997-98 season) before moving back to Brazil with Flamengo. He then made the change to the Bundesliga where he represented Bayern Munich over two spells, Hamburg and Leverkusen -- with a season at Santos sandwiched in between -- winning the Bundesliga four times and lifting the DFB Pokal the same number to times. A brief stint in Qatar followed before Zé Roberto arrived back in Brazil, first with Grêmio and then Palmeiras.

On Sunday night, Zé Roberto entered the history books as Palmeiras lifted the Brasileiro title: at 42 years of age he is the oldest player ever to win the Série A title.
Zé Roberto, who played for Brazil 84 times, may have lost a little of his blistering pace but he has managed to reconvert himself into a central midfielder and is the leader of the Palmeiras dressing room.
"I don't think it is the moment to retire"
And after Palmeiras’ title success, Zé Roberto has said he is eager for more: “I think that a football player should live for the moment. This moment, I think, should not end and it is the time to live it. So I am going to enjoy it. I’ll have time to talk to my family, but after today I don’t think this is the moment to retire. It’s the moment to enjoy it and later on, I’ll decide,” he told Brazilian television.
